Bronx, N.Y. - In a pivotal match-up atop the Atlantic 10 East Division standings, Temple's Patricia Vernon had 17 kills, nine digs and five blocks, while Yue Liu had 13 kills, 13 digs, and seven blocks, as the Owls defeated the Fordham Rams, 3-1, at the Rose Hill Gym.
With the win, Temple increased their lead over Fordham in the A-10 East standings to a game and a half. The Owls are now 9-16 overall, 4-4 in the Atlantic 10, while Fordham fell to 10-16 on the year, 2-5 in the conference.
With only one win separating the two teams, Fordham and Temple split the first two games of the match, as Temple won game one, 30-26, while the Rams took game two, 30-28.
The Owls' defense then took over, winning games three and four, 30-17 and 30-21. The Owls totaled 18.5 blocks in the match, keeping the Fordham attack in check, as the Rams hit just .122 for the match.
For Fordham, Christi Griffiths led the way with 18 kills and four blocks, while Kailee May had a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs. Lauren Fitzsimon chipped in with nine kills, while Bailey McKay had three service aces. Defensively, Stephanie Frost had 20 digs.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Saturday, October 20th, as they host Atlantic 10 opponent, La Salle University, beginning at 3:00 PM in the Rose Hill Gym.
