New Rochelle, N.Y. - When Fordham and Iona get together for a conference water polo match, one thing is normally guaranteed. There will be a lot of goals scored and little defense, which held true on Tuesday.
Despite a season-high seven goals from Jakob Muller, the Fordham water polo team dropped a15-12 conference match-up to Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 9-11 overall, 1-4 in the conference.
The Fordham offense struggled offensively in the shallow waters of the Mulcahy Center Pool, as only three Rams scored on the night. The Gaels held Fordham's top two scores, Alex Powell and Ryan Hultman, in check, as they combined for three shots on the night, while Powell received three penalties.
Fellow freshman Muller picked up his teammates and lit up the scoreboard for Fordham with seven goals on 13 shots, but it was not enough to overcome the Gaels.
Paul Shrewsbury had three tallies on the night for the Rams, while Taylor Landesman netted the final two goals to go with a pair of steals.
The Fordham water polo team will next be in action on Saturday, October 20th, as they play at Connecticut College, beginning at noon.
