Bronx, N.Y. -
Entering the weekend the Fordham University women's soccer coaching staff wanted to pick up six points from the Rams' two Atlantic 10 games in order to build momentum and remain unbeaten in conference play. On Friday night Kim Boulos scored twice to help the Rams take care of Temple and today she scored the first Fordham goal as the Rams completed the weekend sweep with a 2-0 win over Saint Joseph's on Jack Coffey Field. With the win, Fordham goes to 6-3-3 overall, 3-0-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Saint Joseph's falls to 2-12, 0-6 in the conference.
The Hawks had the first scoring opportunity on the day when Carly Salter got off a shot from the top of the box in the fifth minute that Fordham keeper Jen Byer was able to grab.
About five minutes later, Boulos drilled a shot from 20 yards that hit the cross bar and bounded back into play. Katie Sanchez got her foot on the loose ball inside the Saint Joseph's box and slid the ball to Boulos, who one-timed it past Hawk keeper Megan Bastianelli for her fifth tally of the year.
Later in the half, Danielle Ingram picked up a loose ball at the top of the Saint Joseph's box and gave it to Alexis Ribadeneyra, who beat Bastianelli on the ground from 15 yards to put the Rams up 2-0 in the 42nd minute. The goal was the first of the year for Ribadeneyra.
Byer and Elisabeth Roald, who played the second half in goal for the Rams, made the 2-0 lead hold up with each keeper getting credit for one save. Roald's save came in the 76th minute on a blast from Saint Joseph's Ashley Bugnar from 25 yards.
Sanchez almost gave Fordham a 3-0 lead late in the game, getting off a blistering shot from 25 yards that was deflected by a Saint Joseph's defender.
Bastianelli recorded five saves in the Hawks' net as the Rams out shot Saint Joseph's 17-3 on the day.
The Rams will next be in action on Friday, October 19th, as they travel to Amherst, Massachusetts to take on the University of Massachusetts in an Atlantic 10 match-up at 3:00 PM.
