Matt Klampert enters his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Fordham softball team under head coach Melissa Inouye. In the staff's first season on Rose Hill, the Rams secured their seventh consecutive Atlantic 10 championship, sixth regular season title, and ninth trip to a NCAA Regional. The 2020 campaign was unfortunately cut short after one month of action due to the COVID-19 pandemic, though three Rams secured a total of five Atlantic 10 weekly honors.
The 2021 was another stellar year for the program, finishing with a 37-10 record overall and 17-3 in conference play to earn the #2 seed at the A-10 Championship, where, unfortunately, the Rams' season came to an end against eventual champion, George Washington. Still, six student-athletes earned All-Conference honors, led by Devon Miller as Rookie of the Year, and four garnered NFCA All-Region Third Team accolades.
At Fordham, Coach Klampert works specifically with outfielders and assists with hitters, oversees all equipment and apparel ordering and invetory, coordinates all ground transporation, handles scouting reports, works directly with Fordham facilities, creates social media content, and assists with fundraising and camps and clinics.
Klampert had previously worked alongside Coach Inouye at Iona since August 2015. During his time with the Gaels, spanning three seasons, the program won the 2017 MAAC Regular Season championship and participated in the National Invitational Softball Championship postseason tournament. The Gaels qualified for the conference tournament each of the past two years.
Prior to his stint at Iona, Klampert served as a student manager for two years and then as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater, St. John's, where he graduated from in 2014.
Coach Inouye on Klampert's hiring - "Coach Klampert was a part of my previous coaching staff for three years so he understands and knows my overall vision, culture and how I like to run things. He will be a consistent and vital asset for me through this transition and brings a good overall mind for the game and great energy to our program. I'm confident that our student-athletes will enjoy being around him and his enthusiasm."
