Bronx, N.Y. – (December 21, 2017) – The Fordham women's soccer team found themselves garnering postseason recognition twice this week.  First, United Soccer Coaches announced on Thursday the Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award recipients for high school and college soccer programs competing in the fall season. The awards recognized 162 teams across the country for exhibiting fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game.  Among those teams was the Fordham women's soccer team, as the Rams received the honor for the second time in four seasons under head coach Jessica Clinton.

The Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award is given to United Soccer Coaches members at four levels. Teams honored at the platinum level went an entire season without a player or coach receiving a yellow card or red card. Teams honored at the gold (1-10%), silver (11-30%) and bronze (31-50%) levels are based on a percentage calculated by the total number of cards received by players/coaches divided by the team's total number of games played.

The Rams received gold level status for 2017 after receiving silver status back in 2014.  Fordham was assessed only one yellow card during its 19-game regular season (5.2 %) this year.

Also making news was junior Brooke Salmon, who was listed on Top Drawer Soccer's postseason list of the Top 20 Atlantic 10 players.  Salmon, a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 performer for the second straight season, was ranked #11 on the list of 20 players.

Salmon earned the same Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honor in 2017 at a new position, as she took over as one of the Rams' starting center backs after being an All-Atlantic 10 midfielder in 2016.  She helped the Rams set a new single season team record for goals against average at 0.82, breaking the old mark of 0.84 set in 2007 and matched in 2015.

Salmon started all 19 games this season, helping the Fordham defense record seven shutouts, while offensively she netted two goals and an assist.  One of her two goals was a game-winning goal in overtime to defeat Rhode Island.
