Jessica Widmann and
Kate McDonnell and fifth-year senior
Kristina Maksuti were announced as the Fordham women's soccer team captains for the 2015 season today.
"We are excited about our leadership group in general and having Katie, Tina and Jess back with us another year gives us the experience and maturity of playing at the next level," said head coach
Jessica Clinton. "Overall, the senior players are a mature group and are working hard each day to make us better."
Widmann and McDonnell were the team's top two scorers from a year ago. Widmann started all 18 games, and led the team goals (4), assists (4), and points (12). She was selected as the team's offensive MVP at year's end and was named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
McDonnell was the Rams' second leading scorer in 2014 with three goals and three assists for nine points, setting career-highs in each of those categories. She received Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors once last season and started all 17 games she appeared in.
Maksuti returns to the pitch after almost two years away, fighting injury. A former Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team selection, she was the Rams' leading scorer as both a freshman and a sophomore. In total, she has racked up 17 career goals and eight assists for 42 points at Fordham, ranking seventh all-time in career goals and tenth in career points
"With our three seniors and the addition of Marjana (Maksuti), we know we have something special with this core. They each lead in their own way and we are excited about them growing and leading us this year. They are a group that is well respected among their peers, coaches and Fordham community and will make Fordham athletics and our Fordham women's soccer community proud," said Clinton.
The trio will lead the Rams into its opening weekend up in Maine, as Fordham will play Wagner on Friday, August 21
st, and Maine on Sunday, August 23
