Women's Soccer Ends Spring Season with Community Service Events

Rams Volunteer at Susan's Place in the Bronx

During the spring semester, the Fordham Women's Soccer team spent some time out in the community. They spent time volunteering at Susan's Place, located on Jerome Street in the Bronx.

Susan's Place provides a safe, comfortable shelter that delivers high-quality healthcare for women who are homeless. It's a place to be educated on healthy lifestyle choices, a place to learn to take on the responsibilities of being independent, and a place to prepare residents for life after leaving the shelter. Through programs and special events, the residents at Susan's Place are offered opportunities to better themselves while they work toward independence again.

The team kicked off their day with a fun and competitive game of BINGO! As the day progressed, Fordham Women's Soccer players kept busy by sharing, preparing and serving their favorite healthy smoothie recipes as well as some other healthy choice snacks. After teaching the group about nutrition, the team then demonstrated simple exercises that they can do at home to stay healthy and fit.  The team's overall goal was to help the women of Susan's place understand how they can create and keep a healthy life style after leaving the shelter.

Since the team event in March, the Fordham Women's Soccer team has continued to visit Susan's Place weekly to aid the facility in any way that they can.

The team continued to reach out to the community in the spring, this time hosting Right To Play day at Fordham.  Right to Play is an international organization that works to improve the lives of children that live in some of the worlds less fortunate areas by using the power of sport and play for development and health. The Women's Soccer team hosted a day event which consisted of a variety of activities that included team work, listening skills, health talks and a great final game of World Cup!

With the spring season ending for the Women's Soccer Team, they amassed over 260 hours of community service in the Bronx and NYC communities during their springs semester.
