A Second Team All-Patriot League performer in 2013… named 2013 Fordham Special Teams Player of the Year… stepped up and became a valuable member of the defensive backfield in 2013… tied for team lead in interceptions and second on team in pass breakups… moved into the starting lineup at cornerback in 2012… finished with 30 tackles and one interception which he returned for a score… had a pair of tackles in the 2013 Spring Game… contributed as a freshman in the defensive backfield for the Rams in 2011… a three-sport standout in high school.
2013: Appeared in all 14 games as a junior, starting all 14… recorded 64 total tackles, 54 solo, including two for loss… fifth on the team in tackles… tied for team lead with five interceptions and was second with eleven pass deflections… led team with 82 yards on his five interception returns… also had two fumble recoveries and one blocked field goal… had four tackles, three solo, and returned an interception 29 yards for a score at Georgetown (his second career pick six)… made a season-high seven tackles, five solo and one for loss, at Yale… finished with six solo stops, intercepted a pass and blocked a last second field goal attempt in the win over Bucknell… also had six solo tackles, including one for loss, and broke up a pass at Saint Francis… made six stops, five solo, and picked off a pass in the Liberty Cup win over Columbia… opened season with six tackles, five solo, and broke up two passes in the win over Rhode Island… recorded six tackles, five solo, in the Lehigh win… also had six solo stops and a pass deflection versus Holy Cross… made two tackles, intercepted a pass and broke up two others in the NCAA FCS first-round win over Sacred Heart.
2012: Appeared in all eleven games as a sophomore, starting nine at cornerback… recorded 30 total tackles, 19 solo, on the season… also had four pass breakups and an interception… returned interception 64 yards for a score in the Lafayette win… also had three tackles against the Leopards… made six stops, five solo, against Cornell… recorded five tackles, three solo, at Lehigh… made five tackles at Bucknell… finished with four solo tackles and broke up a pass at Villanova.
2011: Appeared in nine games as a freshman, starting one… finished season with seven total tackles, six solo… made four solo tackles at Rhode Island… recorded two stops, one solo, at Colgate… notched a tackle in the Bucknell game.
Before Fordham: A graduate of Southington High School in Southington, Conn., where he lettered in football, lacrosse and basketball… played football for head coach Ron Chase, Jr.… named First Team All-Central Connecticut Conference (CCC) in 2010… scored eight touchdowns (four receiving, two interception returns, one rushing and one kickoff return)… 2010 5-Star QB-WR Camp Top Gun Award recipient... 2010 special teams MVP… 2010-11 All-CCC in basketball… served as team captain for basketball... attended same high school as former Fordham teammate Jake Rodriques.
Personal: Son of Paige Kopcza… has an older sister, Marissa, who played basketball at Penn State Altoona... a Communication major.
