Rowing Competes at Cooper Invitational

Pennsauken, N.J. – Last Sunday, the Fordham Women's Rowing Team competed in the Cooper Invitational Regatta on the Cooper River.  Fordham braved very cold conditions and a stiff crosswind as they faced off against a number of Northeast and Midwest schools, including conference competitors Dayton and Duquesne.
 
Both the JV 8+ and Varsity 4+ had very strong performances in their heats.  The JV8+ won their heat with a time of 7:44.89, the fastest time of any JV8+ crew in the heats, and qualified for the grand final.  In the grand final, they finished sixth in a time of 8:05.26, right behind conference competitor Duquesne. 
 
The Varsity 4+ battled with the Fairfield A crew down the length of the course and was able to maintain its lead as the boat crossed the finish just 0.3 seconds ahead of Fairfield A to secure themselves a place in the grand final with a time of 8:57.47.  In the grand final, the Fordham Varsity 4+ placed sixth in 9:08.04.

While they Varsity 8+ crew began the day with a slow start and finished their heat in 7:34.12, they moved on to the petite final where they dominated over the competition.  The Varsity 8+ took first place in the petite final with a time of 7:23.47, two seconds in front of conference competitor Dayton.

The Fordham Second Varsity 4+ crew raced in the same event at the Varsity 4+ crews and came in sixth in their respective heat, with a time of 9:30.65.  They moved forward to the petite final where they had a strong row to place fourth in 9:14.66, a full 13 seconds in front of the Dayton Varsity 4+ crew.

The Novice 8+ crew competed in a mixed novice and fourth varsity category which was run as a straight final.  Due to the incredibly windy conditions at the start, the crew was unable to get aligned appropriately and was disqualified.  However, they still raced the other crews down the course and had a strong row which will help prepare them for their race next weekend.

Fordham Rowing will be competing again this coming Saturday, April 14, at the Kerr Cup hosted on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, PA.
