Maia Balce won at third singles and second doubles to lead the Fordham women's tennis team to a 4-0 shutout over Saint Joseph's at Life Time Athletic on Saturday. With the win, Fordham improves to 5-7 on the season.
The Rams opened the match taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches.
Tatiana Grigoryan and
Carolina Sa defeated Katherine Devlin and Maureen Devlin at third doubles, 7-5, before
Estelle Wong and
Whitney Weisberg fell at first double to Isis Gill-Reid and Amanda Nava by an identical score. But Balce teamed with
Gianna Insogna to win at third doubles over Laura Gomez and Lourdes Sprinckmoller, 7-5, to secure the doubles pint for Fordham.
The Rams then took the first three completed singles matches to clinch the 4-0 victory. Weisberg got things started with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Katherine Devlin at the sixth position before Balce defeated Gomez at third singles, 6-2, 6-1. Wong closed the match out for Fordham with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Maureen Devlin at second singles.
Grigoryan (first), Insogna (fourth) and Sa (fifth) were all leading in their singles matches when play was halted.
The Rams return to action on Sunday, April 8 as they host Massachusetts at Life Time Athletic.
