North Kingston, R.I. – The Fordham golf team finished in seventh place at the Rhode Island Invitational, held at Quidnessett Golf Course on Tuesday.
The event was shortened to a one day, 36 hole event due to bad weather on Monday.
Senior
Matt Schiller led the way for the Rams, firing rounds of 72-74 for a total score of 146, good for a tie for 5
th place, his best finish of the spring season. Also competing for the Rams were
Joseph Trim, who posted rounds of 78-73 for a total of 151, tying him for 23
rd place,
Josh Madarang shot 78-75 for a total of 153, good for a tie for 30
th place,
James Mongey shot 76-79 for a total of 155 tying him with teammate
Tomas Nieves who shot 79-76 for 41
st place.
Thomas Hayes competed as an individual, posting rounds of 78-75 to finish in a tie for 30
th place.
The host Rhode Island and Rollins College both tied for first with a total score of 585 but Rhode Island won the team championship on a fifth score tiebreaker. St. John's finished in third place with a score of 593, followed by Central Connecticut (594), Lafayette (597), Bryant (601), Fordham (602), Iona (610), Holy Cross (612), Wagner (613) and UMass Lowell (645).
The Rams return to action Friday April 27 as they travel to Orlando, Florida for the Atlantic 10 Championship, held at the Grand Cypress Golf Club.
