Newport News, Va. – (March 12, 2018) - The 2018 Atlantic 10 Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Academic All-Conference teams were announced on Monday, comprised of student-athletes who were selected based on their performance in the pool, as well as in the classroom. To be nominated, swimmers and divers must have a GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale) for their entire academic career. The teams were selected through voting conducted by the league's Sports Information Directors.
Among those selected were Fordham seniors
Tommy Christensen (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway West) and
Nele Albers (Ludinghausen, Germany/St. Antonius Gymnasium). The Rams have now had at least one All-Academic selection in 17 of the last 18 years.
Making up the Men's Swimming and Diving Academic All-Conference team are Davidson's Crossan Cooper, Riley League and Clay Resweber, Fordham's Christensen, George Mason's Matthew Lynch, George Washington's Fabian Bergman, Emils Pone, Fath Moritz and Clarke Indek, La Salle's Jakub Bartosiewicz, Massachusetts' Luke Gordan, Saint Louis' Collin O'Brien, and St. Bonaventure's Jordan Powers.
Christensen, who has a 3.53 GPA and served as a team captain this season, will graduate in May with a degree in Integrative Neuroscience with a concentration on Neuroscience. A three-year member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, he scored in both butterfly events at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship for the second straight season, taking 12
th in the 100 butterfly in a career-best time of 49.65 seconds and 14
th in the 200 butterfly in 1:52.55. He also set a personal-best in the 50 freestyle event this season, clocking in at 21.71 seconds.
On the women's side, Davidson's Sarah Coats, Duquesne's Lexi Santer, Lauren Devorace, Carson Gross, Abby Watson and Kristen McKnight, Fordham's Albers, George Washington's Carolina Racke and Hannah Kopydlowski, Massachusetts' Maja Boric and St. Bonaventure's Devon McFadden complete the Women's Swimming and Diving Academic All-Conference team.
Albers, who currently stands with a 4.0 GPA, and will graduate in May with a degree in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics. Also a member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, she scored in two individual events and just missed on a third at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship. She finished seventh in the 200 breaststroke event in 2:18.92, while grabbing 12
th in the 400 individual medley in 4:27.51, as well as 18
th in the 100 breaststroke event (1:04.98). Albers was also a member of the 400 medley relay team, which took fifth overall in 3:45.01.
