Complete List for the ACWPC
The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches has announced the men's All-Academic Awards for the 2017 season, honoring ten Fordham student-athletes with at least a 3.2 GPA or higher. The Rams also garnered the team award from the ACWPC, ranking in the top ten nationally.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete's head coach must be a member of the ACWPC, while the athlete must attain a grade point average in excess of 3.20. Divided into three teams based on cumulative grade point average (GPA), 92 overall athletes garnered Outstanding status (4.00-3.71), 145 Superior (3.70-3.41) and 117 Excellent (3.40-3.20) recognition from 45 teams.
Fordham's
Massimiliano Mirarchi was the lone student-athlete to earn "Outstanding" status, while
Joseph Agabs,
Phillip Wang, and
August Weyandt garnered "Superior" status. Six others,
Yuki Saito,
Ian Watson,
Ethan Vandeventer,
Will Smoot,
Sam Wheeler, and
Cole Donnelly, earned "Excellent" status.
For Vandeventer and Smoot, this is the third consecutive year that they have been honored by the ACWPC, while being the second time for Agabs, Saito, Watson, and Donnelly.
Further, a total of 21 schools posted Team Honors for posting GPAs over 3.0. Salem International (3.78) led the way with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (3.62), California Institute of Technology (3.51), St. Francis Brooklyn (3.50), Brown (3.49), Harvard (3.30), Wagner (3.29), Chapman (3.29), Iona (3.24) and Fordham (3.18) rounding out the Top 10.
