Bre Cavanaugh Named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week

Newport News, Va. – Redshirt freshman Bre Cavanaugh has earned her fourth Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor this season after averaging 28.5 points over two games this past week, it was announced by the league office this afternoon.
 
"Bre had a record-setting performance at Saint Louis with 37 points and came back to protect our home court with 20 more against Rhode Island," Head coach Stephanie Gaitley said, "She continues to grow as a player and she is well-deserving of the recognition."
 
Fordham needed Cavanaugh to step up in the absence of G'mrice Davis against Saint Louis and the redshirt freshman answered the call and then some. She set a new Atlantic 10 season-high with 37 points on 12-of-30 shooting, 5-of-8 from behind the arc, and 8-of-8 from the charity stripe, scoring the Rams' final 10 points in regulation, including clutch game-tying free throws with 10 seconds left, and eight points in the double overtime period. The 37 points were also a new Fordham freshman record and the fourth-most in a single game, period. She also became just the fourth freshman to tally multiple 30-point performances in her rookie season, behind three Fordham Hall of Famers. Cavanaugh followed that up with an all-around gem against Rhode Island on Sunday, tallying a career-high seven steals, second-most in a single game in program history, in addition to her 20 points, her 10^th 20-point effort of the year. The Allamuchy, N.J. native added five rebounds and a team-high four assists, as well, across all 40 minutes.
 
For the week, Cavanaugh averaged 28.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals, and 2.5 assists over 44.0 minutes while shooting 38.3% overall and 44.4% from downtown. 
 
This is Cavanaugh's fourth Rookie of the Week honor, passing Megan Mahoney (2007-08) for second-most all-time and now one behind Samantha Clark (2012-13) for most in a single freshman campaign.
 
The Rams have the week off before traveling to Davidson this Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
