Swimming & Diving Kicks Off Competition at A-10 Championships

200 Medley Relay Teams Both Earn Bronze, While Men Set School Record

Geneva, Ohio – (February 14, 2018) – The 2018 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championships are underway at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio, as day one saw five events take place.  After those events, the Fordham women sit in fourth, while the men are sixth.
 
Through two events in the women's competition, Duquesne leads the way with 72 points. Following them in the standings are Richmond (68), George Washington (64), Fordham (62), Massachusetts (52), George Mason (52), St. Bonaventure (52), Saint Louis (40), La Salle (36), Rhode Island (36), and Davidson (26). 
 
The Fordham women kicked off the championship with a bronze medal finish in the 200 medley relay, as Michelle Martin, Gabrielle Celia, Amelia Bullock, and Samantha McDonald clocked a season-best time of 1:41.35 for third place.
 
The Rams then just missed the podium in the 800 freestyle relay, where Caitlin McNary, Erin McBride, Paulina Watson, and Theresa Mullen took fourth overall in a season-best time of 7:22.62.
 
Through three events on the men's side, George Washington is in first place with 118 points. Trailing them in the standings are La Salle (104), Massachusetts (88), George Mason (81), Saint Louis (69), Fordham (58), St. Bonaventure (57), and Davidson (52).

The Fordham men also started the championship with a bronze medal finish and the added bonus of a school record.  The group of Auston Ramsay Travis Monahan, Joe Mercurio, and Joseph Vizza posted a school record time of 1:28.48 in the 200 medley relay to earn third place overall.
 
Then in the 800 freestyle relay, Ramsay, Danny McGowan, Isiah Magsino, and Grant Durner posted a season-best time of 6:50.82 to finish eighth.
 
The final competitor on day one for Fordham was diver Christopher Craig, who placed 13th overall in the one-meter dive with a score of 192.60.
 
Day two of the championship begins with preliminaries at 10:00 AM on Thursday in the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, and the women's one-meter dive with the finals set for 6:30 PM.
