Cavanaugh, Davis Earn Weekly Atlantic 10 Honors

Women's Basketball Sweeps the Weekly A-10 Awards, Cavanaugh's Third and Davis' Second Honor

Newports News, Va. – Fordham women's basketball standouts G'mrice Davis and Bre Cavanaugh have each won individual Atlantic 10 weekly honors this season, albeit in separate weeks. On Monday afternoon, however, the league office announced the duo as this week's Co-Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. It is Davis' second consecutive award and Cavanaugh's third this season. Fordham defeated Massachusetts on the road last Wednesday and outlasted Saint Louis in a thrilling Saturday afternoon contest.

"It is a great honor to have G and Bre both acknowledged by the A-10 as Player and Rookie of the Week," Head coach Stephanie Gaitley said, "To have both speaks volumes of their efforts in some hard-fought victories last week."

Over 35 minutes at UMass, Davis took a then-career-high 20 shots and converted nine of them en route to 18 points to go along with her 14 rebounds, six on the offensive glass, one assist, and one block. The senior was instrumental in the come-from-behind win over the Billikens on Saturday, going on a personal 12-2 run in the third quarter to retake the lead for Fordham, 50-47, and finished with a career-high 31 points on 13-of-27 shooting and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. Davis also matched a career-high with four assists and notched two steals across 38 minutes. For the week, the senior forward averaged 24.5 points, 14.5 boards, 2.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per game.

Cavanaugh was equally important in the two victories, tallying back-to-back 20-point performances, the fourth and fifth such games of her freshman campaign. The Allamuchy, N.J. native scored 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting, a career-high three three-pointers, five rebounds, a season-high five assists, and matched a personal-best three steals across all 40 minutes at Massachusetts last Wednesday, then came up big when it mattered most against Saint Louis, scoring the game's last five points, including a go-ahead spot-up three to give the Rams the win with just under two minutes remaining in regulation. For the day, Cavanaugh finished with 20 points on 5-of-15 shooting but 8-of-9 from the charity stripe, while again playing all 40 minutes. For the week, she averaged 21.5 points on 45.2% shooting, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per contest.

Davis' two awards matches an individual school A-10 record for most in a season, shared with Erin Rooney in 2013-14 and Emily Tapio in 2014-15. Marah Strickland also earned one in the former and Samantha Clark took home one in the latter season. Cavanaugh's three Rookie of the Week honors is the second-most by a freshman in a single-season in program history, tied with Megan Mahoney in 2007-08, but behind Clark's five that she won as a freshman in 2012-13.

Fordham is back in action Wednesday at noon when it hosts Davidson for the team's annual Field Trip Day. The game will be shown live on the A-10 Digital Network.
