Track & Field Returns To Action at Wagner Invitational

Staten Island, N.Y. – After an extended holiday break the Fordham Track & Field teams returned to competition on Friday when they traveled out to Staten Island to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex for the Wagner Invitational, hosted by Wagner College.

The highlights of the day for the Rams were the two individual wins by Thomas Slattery in the 3,000 meter race in an IC4A qualifying time of 8:23.81 and Merissa Wright in the 500-meter dash in 1:17.48.

Top performers on the men's side included Ryan Kutch who finished fifth in the 3,000 meter run in 8:40.11, Brian Cook, Sean Phillips and Fritz Heinrich placed ninth-11th in the mile run with times of 4:18.78, 4:20.04 and 4:20.55, respectively, Kyle Mack (8th – 50.71) and Jack Keegan (14th – 51.90) had strong showings in the 400-meter dash and Arthur Gooden Jr. finished 11th in the 500-meter dash in 1:07.95.

In the field events, Ryan Riviere finished third in the pole vault, clearing 4.45 meters and Andrew Byrne took tenth in the high jump, clearing 1.85 meters.

On the women's side, the Rams' distance runners had a strong showing in the 3,000 meters with Angelina Grebe taking third in 10:18.47, Sydney Snow placing ninth in 10:26.03 and Laurel Fishing finishing in 11th in 10:27.44. Grebe, Snow and Fisher all posted career-best times in the 3,000.

The sprinters also excelled in the 200-meter dash as Mary Kate Kenny finished sixth in 25.84 seconds and Kathryn Kelly placed eighth in 26.18 seconds. Kelly and Kenny also finished third and seventh in the 60 meter dash finals in 7.92 and 7.94 seconds, respectively.

Other top performers included Dana Beggins (4th – 59.73) and Laura Jaeger (13th – 1:01.90) in the 400-meter dash, Aidan Moroz (2nd – 1:18.56) and Morgan Menzzasalma (5th – 1:21.29) in the 500-meter dash and Leah Hickey (13th – 2:24.57) in the 800-meter run.

Neve Devine was the top finisher for the Rams in the field events, tying for fourth place in the high jump, clearing 1.60 meters.

In the relays, Fordham's "A" women's relay finished fifth in the 4x400 relay in a time of 4:01.00, while the 'B' relay took 11th in 4:10.70. The men's 'B' relay took 14th in 3:32.58.

The Rams return to action on Friday January 12 when they host the Mike Massone Invitational at the Lombardi Center Field House. Events begin at 10 a.m
