G'mrice Davis Named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week

Preseason First Team All-Conference Selection Gets Her First Weekly Award

Newport News, Va. – The Atlantic 10's first weekly awards of 2018 were announced on Tuesday afternoon and the league office named Fordham women's basketball senior forward G'mrice Davis as its first Player of the Week of the new year. This is Davis', an A-10 preseason First Team All-Conference and All-Defensive team selection, first league honor of the season and it is Fordham's third after Bre Cavanaugh's two Rookie nods. Davis was also named CollegeSportsMadness.com's A-10 Player of the Week.

Davis failed to record double-doubles against Bucknell and UCLA two weeks ago, snapping a streak of eight straight to begin her season, but she was back to her usual self this past week, powering Fordham to three victories, the Fordham Holiday Classic crown and MVP honors, and a conference-opening win over George Washington with three consecutive big double-doubles. Davis kicked things off with 21 points, on 7-of-12 shooting and 7-of-9 from the line, and 13 rebounds, plus a team-high three assists over 36 minutes against Hartford on Thursday, then poured in 19 and 13 across all 40 minutes against UC Davis, en route to being named Holiday Classic MVP. The senior forward came up big against George Washington on Sunday afternoon, scoring 14 points and grabbing 15 boards, while handing out a game-high four assists, matching her career-high, across 33 minutes.

For the week, the Philadelphia native averaged 18.0 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists, while shooting 59.5% from the floor and converting 76.9% of her free throws. She played 36.3 minutes per contest.

During Sunday's win, she rose two more spots on the school's all-time points list, now with 1,171 career points, which ranks 11th all-time. She will enter the top-10 once she passes current Director of Operations Abigail Corning's 1,213. Davis is also just two rebounds away from surpassing former teammate and current Director of Player Development Samantha Clark for second all-time in school history, currently with 945, and recently entered the all-time top-10's for career field goals and free throws.

The Rams play at the University of Massachusetts on Wednesday evening, with tipoff set for 5 p.m.
