Women’s Soccer Falls at George Washington

Sophomore Kelly LaMorte Finishes with Three Saves for Fordham

Washington, D.C. – George Washington's Sofia Pavon scored on a penalty kick in the 51st minute, while  Miranda Horn had two saves, as the Colonials topped the Fordham Rams, 1-0, at the GW Soccer Field in women's soccer action on Wednesday.

With the loss, Fordham goes to 5-4-3 on the year, 2-1 in the Atlantic 10, while George Washington improved to 7-3-1 overall, 2-1 in the league.

After a scoreless first half, the Colonials got the lone goal of the game in the 51st minute.  George Washington's Brittany Cooper drove across the box and was tripped by a Fordham defender, awarding a penalty kick to the Colonials.  Sofia Pavon took the penalty kick, using a stutter step run to get the shot by Fordham goalkeeper Kelly LaMorte, for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Fordham had a pair of corner kick chances, as well as a shot on goal by Milan Bornstein in the 72nd minute, but unfortunately for the Rams, none of those scoring chances turned into an equalizer, as Fordham fell by the 1-0 score.

George Washington finished with a 9-5 shot edge in the game.  In net,
