Washington, D.C. – George Washington's Sofia Pavon scored on a penalty kick in the 51
st minute, while Miranda Horn had two saves, as the Colonials topped the Fordham Rams, 1-0, at the GW Soccer Field in women's soccer action on Wednesday.
With the loss, Fordham goes to 5-4-3 on the year, 2-1 in the Atlantic 10, while George Washington improved to 7-3-1 overall, 2-1 in the league.
After a scoreless first half, the Colonials got the lone goal of the game in the 51
st minute. George Washington's Brittany Cooper drove across the box and was tripped by a Fordham defender, awarding a penalty kick to the Colonials. Sofia Pavon took the penalty kick, using a stutter step run to get the shot by Fordham goalkeeper
Kelly LaMorte, for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Fordham had a pair of corner kick chances, as well as a shot on goal by
Milan Bornstein in the 72
nd minute, but unfortunately for the Rams, none of those scoring chances turned into an equalizer, as Fordham fell by the 1-0 score.
George Washington finished with a 9-5 shot edge in the game. In net,

LaMorte finished with three saves for Fordham, while Horn had two for the Colonials.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, October 1
st, when the Rams host Duquesne at Jack Coffey Field for Cancer Awareness Day, beginning at 1:00 PM. The Rams will be raising funds for the Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care through donations, raffles, and silent auctions during the game.
Some items to be raffled or up for auction are 2018 Yankee tickets, an autographed baseball by NY Met David Wright, tickets to the Katy Perry concert on October 5th, Red Bulls game tickets, Westchester Knicks tickets, a Fordham team autographed soccer ball, pink NFL cleats among other items. For the raffle items, tickets are $1, 5 tickets for $4, and 10 tickets for $7.
