Bronx, N.Y. – Hartford's Sierra Stone and Kaila Lozada each scored once, while Maia Perez made five saves in goal, as the Hawks topped the Fordham Rams, 2-1, in women's soccer action at Jack Coffey Field on Sunday.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 3-3-3, while Hartford improved to 3-5-1.
Hartford netted the opening goal of the game late in the first half. In the 40
th minute, Kaila Lozada was fouled in the box, awarding a penalty kick to the Hawks. Lozada stepped to the penalty spot and converted to the left side for her second goal of the year.
The Hawks then made it 2-0 in the 69
th minute, as Sierra Stone and Julia Carr pulled off a give-and-go with Stone finishing to the upper right corner for her third marker of the year.
The Rams pulled within one in the 85
th minute, when
Colleen Hickey made four saves in the second half.
Carlie Wagner made a nice move into the box and was tripped up assessing a foul to Hartford and a penalty kick to Fordham.
Brooke Salmon stepped to the spot, and drilled the ball into the right center of the net for her first goal of the year.
Fordham continued to put the pressure on to find the equalizer, getting shots from
Clara Gastaldi in the 88
th minute and Salmon in the 89
th minute, but goalkeeper Maia Perez made the stop on both attempts, giving Hartford the 2-1 win.
In net, Perez made five saves in the win, while
Kelly LaMorte had two saves in the first half for Fordham, while
Colleen Hickey finished with four in the second half.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Thursday, September 21
st, when the Rams open Atlantic 10 play against the Rhode Island Rams, beginning at 7:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
