Bronx, N.Y. – An ancient Chinese proverbs reads "To get through the hardest journey we need take only one step at a time, but we must keep on stepping." Though the weather didn't cooperate, the Fordham football squad took its first step today as the Rams opened fall camp to prepare for the 2017 season.
Â
Second-year head coach
Andrew Breiner guided the Rams through a two-hour workout in a near steady rain on Jack Coffey Field as they prepare for the 2017 season opener on September 1 when Fordham travels to West Point, N.Y., to face the Army West Point Black Knights in Michie Stadium at 6:00 p.m.
Â
Some notes from today's practice:
- Earlier in the day senior running back
Chase Edmonds was named to the
2017 STATS FCS Walter Payton Award Watch List. Edmonds finish fourth in voting for the award in each of the past two years.
Â
- A few veterans changed uniform numbers with
Austin Longi swapping number five for number three and
Antonio Jackson scooping up Longi's former number. Also
Jesse Bramble switched from 46 to number six.
Â
- There were many new faces on Jack Coffey Field today with over 20 freshmen taking part in their first collegiate practice.
- Though there were many new faces on the field, there was one familiar face who was noticeably absent: athletic trainer Vinny Porricelli, who is retiring this month after 35 years at Fordham.
Â
- Luckily, the heavy rains came shortly after the Rams cleared the field, with loud claps of thunder and numerous bolts of lightning.
