Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham women's basketball program will embark on its quadrennial foreign tour in two weeks' time, four years after a tour of Oceania, traveling to Italy and then Spain and competing in five exhibition matches with both local club teams and assembled talent over a 12-day period. The Rams will leave on August 15 and spend time in Venice, Padova, Verona, Milan, Rome, and Barcelona before heading back to the Bronx on the 27
th.
"A foreign tour is an outstanding opportunity to bond through experiences both on and off the court," Head coach
Stephanie Gaitley said, "We will be a very young team looking to get everyone valuable minutes as we start to put the pieces together for the upcoming 2017-18 season. We are thankful to our administration for their support of this once-in-a-lifetime cultural experience!"
After traveling to and competing in Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji four years ago, this year's team, staff, and administrators will fly from JFK airport on the night of Tuesday, August 15 to Venice, and take in nearly two weeks of sight-seeing and international competition. Out of a home base in nearby Padova, the program will take in Venice, Verona, and Milan over the next five days, competing twice, once in the town of Latisana against the University of Trieste on August 17, and again on the 20
th in Costa Masnaga, just north of Milan, against A.S.D. Basket Costa. Following the contest, the team will head straight to Italy's capital, Rome.
After a tour of Vatican City on the 21
st, the team will take in the Colosseum and the ancient ruins of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill the following day, culminating in a late match against an ASD Summer League All Star team in nearby Pamphili Village.
The Italian section of the tour completed, the Rams will fly to Barcelona on the 23
rd. After two days of sight-seeing, the team will compete twice over the next two days, once against Joventut Les Corts on Friday the 25
th and lastly against club team Santa Rosa de Lima Horta on the 26
th. The Rams will return to Rose Hill the next day.
