CRCA Release
Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham sophomore
Cynthia Luz was named second team All-Region by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) it was announced today. She is the only rower from the Atlantic 10 to earn All-Region honors.
"
Cynthia is an outstanding rower and rowed in the five seat of our first eight in every regatta during the spring season," said head coach
Ted Bonanno. "She set a school record for 6,000 meters on the ergometer in the fall and just missed our 2,000 meter record in the spring. I am sure she will continue breaking records and be a key member of our varsity team for the next two years."
With the Fordham varsity 8 boat this year, Luz helped the Rams to a fourth place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championships and a fourth place showing in the Evelyn Bergman Trophy Championship at the Dad Vail Championships. The varsity 8 took third at both the Head of the Schuykill in the fall and the Kerr Cup in the spring. Luz was also a member of the women's club 4+ that took 15th at the Head of the Charles last October.
Nominated student-athletes for CRCA All-Region awards are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coach's recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season. These athletes will be eligible for All-America awards selection following the NCAA Rowing Championships.
