Rowing Takes Fourth at Atlantic 10 Championships

Pennsauken, N.J. – The Fordham Varsity 8 placed fourth in the grand final to lead the Ram rowers to a fourth place team finish at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championships held on the Cooper River.
 
Following the championship, the Rams had three rowers named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference team with Jackie Ramos earning first team honors and Kara Ramsey and Erin Parker being named to the second team.

Massachusetts won the team title with a score of 52, followed closely by Rhode Island (49). George Washington placed third with 43 points, eight ahead of Fordham. Dayton and Saint Joseph's tied for fifth ahead of Duquesne (21), George Mason (19) and La Salle (5).
 
The Fordham varsity 8 advanced to the grand final by placing second in its heat in 7:01.30, behind George Washington but in front of George Mason, Saint Joseph's and La Salle. In the grand final the Rams improved their time to 6:59.07, behind UMass, Rhode Island and George Washington but ahead of Dayton and George Mason.
 
The Fordham second varsity 8 entry also placed fourth in the grand final. The Rams opened the competition by winning their heat in 7:04.79, in front of George Washington, Duquesne and George Mason. In the grand final, the Rams finished fourth in 7:10.04, behind Rhode Island, Massachusetts and George Washington but ahead of Saint Joseph's and Duquesne.
 
In the third varsity 8, the Rams took fourth in 7:50.46, just over a second behind Duquesne. Saint Joseph's won the race followed by George Washington with Rhode Island placing fifth.
 
In the varsity 4, the Fordham entry advanced to the grand final with a third place showing in its heat, covering the course in 8:16.52, just behind second place Rhode Island. In the grand final the Rams took fifth in 8:13.75, behind Massachusetts, George Washington, Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's, who edged Fordham by just 0.12 seconds for fourth place.
 
The Rams close out the 2017 spring season at the Dad Vail Championships on May 12 and 13 on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
