APR Public Recognition Awards
Â
Bronx, N.Y. - Seven Fordham University athletic teams were among more than 1,000 Division I squads to be publicly recognized by the NCAA for their latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores, posting multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. Additionally, Fordham was recognized as just one of 43 NCAA Division I programs, only one of two Atlantic 10 schools, that have one or more teams recognized in each of the 12 years they have been awarded.
Â
The Fordham women's tennis program was recognized for the twelfth straight year, becoming just one of 93 programs to earn Public Recognition Awards every year of the program.

Being honored for the Rams along with Women's Tennis are Baseball, Golf, Men's Tennis, Women's Swimming and Diving, Volleyball, and Water Polo. Baseball is recognized for the tenth time while men's tennis earns its fifth recognition, golf and water polo their fourth, volleyball its third and women's swimming and diving its second.
Â
"For the women's tennis program to be one of just 93 teams that have been recognized in each of the 12 years of the APR program is a tremendous accomplishment," said Director of Athletics,
David Roach. "The recognition of the Fordham programs by the NCAA shows that Fordham student-athletes are as successful in the classroom as they are on the fields of competition. We are extremely proud of the seven teams that have been recognized and congratulate them for their accomplishment. Those student-athletes are great representatives of Fordham Athletics and Fordham University."
Â
Among Atlantic 10 schools, Davidson led the way with 11 teams recognized, followed by George Washington, Saint Joseph's and Saint Louis with seven teams each. Dayton, Fordham, La Salle and St. Bonaventure each had six teams recognized (water polo is not sponsored by the Atlantic 10).

The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or quarter and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in each sport.
Â
APR scores for all Division I teams will be released May 10. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
Â

This year, 1,203 teams are being recognized for academic performance: 746 women's teams and 457 men's teams or co-ed teams. The total number of teams being recognized increased by 132 from a year ago, largely as a result of an increase in perfect scores. Scores for programs in the top 10 percent ranged from 984 to a perfect 1,000, with 1,090 teams earning a perfect score.
Â
The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.
Â
"NCAA student-athletes and schools continue to achieve unprecedented levels of academic success," said Mark Emmert, NCAA president. "We commend these programs for their commitment to academic excellence and dedication to preparing student-athletes for life after college."
