Philadelphia, Pa. – The Fordham University rowing squad closed out the 2017 spring season at the Dad Vail Championships where the varsity 8 placed fourth.
The Fordham Varsity 8 opened the regatta with a fourth place finish in its heat in 6:26.362, behind Massachusetts, Drexel and Saint Joseph's but in front of Grand Valley, Delaware and Duquesne.
The fourth place finish propelled the Rams to the semifinals where they won their heat in 6:47.061, placing ahead of Saint Joseph's, Purdue, Pittsburgh and SUNY Geneseo and DePaul.
In the Evelyn Bergman Trophy Championship final, Fordham took fourth in 6:40.841, just 0.102 seconds behind Saint Joseph's for third place. Drexel won the race followed by Massachusetts, Saint Joseph's, Fordham, Grand Valley and Delaware.
The Rams also had success in the Junior Varsity 8, placing second in the Coleman D. Boylan finals. Fordham opened the event by winning their heat in 6:53.015, well ahead of Saint Joseph's, Delaware, Purdue and Army, to advance to the finals.
In the finals, the Rams were beat to the line by Drexel but finished in front of Massachusetts, Saint Joseph's, Delaware and Duquesne.
In the Junior Varsity 4, the Fordham entry placed third in the second finals. The Rams opened the day with a fifth place finish in their heat in 8:30.618 to advance to the second final where they finished behind Duquesne and Bryant but in front of Marquette and Ohio State.
Fordham also had an entry in the Varsity 4, taking sixth in the second final. The Rams opened the event with the tenth best heat time (7:21.040) to move Fordham to the semifinals where the Rams placed fourth to advance to the second finals. In the second finals, the Rams placed sixth behind Massachusetts, Purdue, Emory, Army and Brock.
The Rams also raced a shell in the Freshman/Novice 4 where they placed third, just 0.114 Georgia Tech for second place.
In the Third Varsity 8, the Rams took third behind Drexel and Delaware.
