Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University men's tennis team held their end-of-year team banquet
on Tuesday evening at Antonio's Trattoria on Belmont Avenue where they handed out team awards and celebrated the season.
The team finished with an 11-9 overall record, marking the first back-to-back winning seasons in over twenty years.
"I always enjoy getting together with the team to celebrate the season," said head coach
Mike Sowter. "The team has really shown a lot of improvement this year and it's been a pleasure watching the team grow so we had a wonderful evening together. We were able to recognize the winners of our team awards and celebrate the accomplishments of the team both on, and off, the court."
The Spirit Award, which is given to the student-athlete that demonstrates sportsmanship, leadership, motivation and integrity, was awarded to junior
Harris Durkovic for a second straight year. Durkovic consistently was one of the most vocal members of the year each and every day, compiling a 4-1 singles record, 2-0 at the fifth position, as well as three doubles wins. He also served as the team's SAAC representative, director of the team's Instagram account, and designated van driver.
Freshman
Fabian Mauritzson received the team's Most Improved Player award. Mauritzson battled to improve throughout the fall to secure a position in the starting lineup and finished with 11 singles wins on the season, the most wins on the team. Additionally, Mauritzson was named the men's tennis team MVP at the Block F Dinner on May 3rd.
The Player of the Year Award was presented to senior
