San Antonio, Texas – Former Fordham right-hander Brett Kennedy, who is currently with the Double "A" San Antonio Missions, was named Texas League Pitcher of the Week for May 1-7.
In two starts, Kennedy went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 10:2 over 13 innings. During that stretch, the Brigantine, New Jersey native led the league in wins, while being just one of four qualifying pitchers to not allow a run.
For the week, Kennedy also finished tied for second in innings, third in WHIP (0.69), sixth in opponent batting average (.159) and eighth in strikeouts.
In his first start of the week on May 1 vs. Midland, Kennedy steered San Antonio to a 10-0 win after allowing just three hits and one walk, while striking out four over a career-high, tying seven innings.
He followed that up on Saturday night at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, by limiting the
Hooks to just four hits over six innings in the club's 3-2 victory.
San Diego selected Kennedy in the 11
th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Fordham University. In six overall starts for the Missions this season, the 23-year-old hurler is 2-1 with a 4.94 ERA and 25 strikeouts over 27.1 innings.
