League Release
Newport News, Va. – Fordham softball standout pitcher
Madison Aughinbaugh has been named this week's Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon, the freshman's third weekly honor but first Pitcher nod. The award is Fordham's 15
th of the year already and the Rams have garnered at least one honor in all eight weeks.
Â
Aughinbaugh was solid at the plate, moving up to the number two spot in the order with
Amy Van Hoven out, but it was the freshman's pitching that was key to the Rams' 4-1 record this past week. The freshman made two starts and two appearances in relief, picking up three wins, improving to 9-3 on the year. Against Stony Brook on Wednesday, the Port Tobacco, Md. native started and tossed two perfect frames, notching one strikeout, before making way for
Taylor Stocks after the Rams had jumped out to an early big lead. Aughinbaugh came on in relief later in the afternoon against Seton Hall, picking up the win by allowing just three singles in three innings, also tallying one strikeout.
Â
Aughinbaugh appeared in both games of Sunday's doubleheader against Saint Joseph's. She was excellent in a game one start, hurling six two-hit innings with one walk allowed and six strikeouts, picking up her second win in the process. Game two went into extra innings and Aughinbaugh earned the win, as well, thanks to a little help from her teammates. Coming on in the seventh inning in relief of
Lauren Quense, Aughinbaugh was nearly blemish-free over her first three frames before allowing a solo home run in the top of the 10
th inning, the only extra-base hit she allowed in the past week.
Morgan Figueroa and
Jessica Hughes picked her up, though, as Fordham walked off 4-3 victors, giving Aughinbaugh her third win in her fourth appearance.
Â
For the week, the freshman hurler allowed just one run on eight hits and one walk in 15.0 innings, striking out nine. She tallied a 0.47 ERA for the week and is now 9-3 on the year with a 2.21 ERA. She's been recognized twice previously this year as A-10 Rookie of the Week.
Â
The Rams are back in action this upcoming weekend for a three-game series at George Mason.
