G'mrice Davis Named to All-Met First Team

Junior Adds to Impressive Campaign

White Plains, N.Y. – Fresh off being named Fordham women's basketball's second-ever First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection, junior standout G'mrice Davis has today been announced as a member of the All-Met Division I First Team, the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) announced Tuesday.

G'mrice joins Erin Rooney as the only Rams to earn the distinction, with the latter being named to the first team in both 2013 and 2014. Abigail Corning and Marah Strickland earned third team in 2014 and second team in 2013, respectively, while Coach Stephanie Gaitley was named the Maggie Dixon Coach of the Year in 2013.

"It is a fantastic honor for G to be recognized as one of the elite players in the metropolitan area," Gaitley said, "As a junior, this is a great accomplishment and we hope to see her springboard to greater heights in the future."

Davis enjoyed a tremendous junior campaign in the Bronx and had one of the best rebounding seasons in program history. The forward was a staple at number two in the Division I rebounding ranks all season long and finished there, with 436 total rebounds, a 12.8 boards per game average, 10.2 defensive rebounds per contest, and 24 double-doubles. She became just the second Ram to ever average double-digit rebounds, the other being Hall of Famer Anne Gregory O'Connell, and surpassed O'Connell's lowest tally of boards in a season, 422, to rank fourth all-time. The Philadelphia native bumped her career rebounding average to 8.3, which is currently third-highest in school history, while her 770 career boards rank fifth all-time.

Davis averaged 14.6 points and 12.8 rebounds per game across 34.0 minutes per contest, and was one of two players to start all 34 contests. She led the Atlantic 10 in every rebounding category and her 48.1% field goal percentage ranked fourth, as well. Finishing just three points shy of becoming the 10th Ram to ever reach 500 points in a season, Davis' 497 points ranks 11th, although an even 200 field goals on the year ranks 10th. The junior did bump her career scoring average up to 10.4, though, becoming the 18th player with an average in double figures.

Davis' first impressive showing came at then-number one school in the country Notre Dame, just missing out on a double-double by one point but finishing with a career-high 15 rebounds, four on the offensive glass, plus three assists and four steals across a team-high 36 minutes. The junior tallied her first double-double in the next game, the team's final game of the Preseason WNIT, with 19 points and 10 rebounds in 31 minutes against Little Rock at home. She set two new scoring career-highs and two new rebounding career-highs after that, with 27 points against Davidson on January 4, and 21 boards against Grambling State on November 27, respectively, while playing 40 or more minutes in four games, including a personal-best 41 minutes in the thrilling double-overtime win at La Salle in the regular season finale. Davis was phenomenal once the postseason began, leading Fordham to an opening-round victory against Davidson with 17 points and 16 rebounds and tallying another double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds against Saint Louis in a quarterfinal loss. In the WNIT, she was instrumental in the comeback win at Georgetown in the first round, finishing with 16 points and 17 rebounds across 39 minutes, before dropping 20 points and 15 boards at Penn State to wrap up her season. Davis tallied the aforementioned 24 double-doubles but missed out on five more by just one point or rebound.

Exceptional over the second half of the year, starting with the home win over Manhattan on December 17, G'mrice put together 20 double-doubles in 23 games, while scoring in double figures in every contest. She hauled in 12 or more rebounds in 21 games on the year, including five straight to end the season. In the postseason, between two rounds of the A-10 Championship and two in the postseason WNIT, Davis averaged 16.0 points and 15.8 rebounds during a team-high 35.5 minutes per contest.

The MBWA focuses on 72 schools in the metropolitan area, including 21 in Division I, and has been handing out awards for women's basketball since the 2011-12 season.
