Newport News, Va. – After failing to earn an Atlantic 10 weekly award last week for the first time all season, the Fordham softball team is once again represented within the trio of honors as junior
Madison Shaw was today named Co-Player of the Week, her third award of the season. The accolade is the program's 16
th of the campaign thus far through 10 weeks and is the sixth Player of the Week nod.
Â
Shaw helped the Rams to a 3-3 record over the past seven days by slashing .474/.476/.842 with at least one hit in all six games and at least one RBI in the last five. The junior notched nine hits in 19 at bats with eight RBI on two doubles, a triple, and a home run, plus five runs scored, a walk, and a stolen base.
Â
Shaw kept things simple with a 1-for-3 day in the team's walk-off win against Iona on Tuesday and finished Wednesday's doubleheader at Lehigh with three hits in six at bats, notching a RBI single in game one and then a RBI triple in the game two win, plus a walk and two runs scored. Shaw also made her first career appearance at shortstop in game one, and first career start at the position in game two.
Â
Against Massachusetts in this past weekend's three-game series, Shaw provided three of the team's four runs, first with a first-inning sac fly and then a clutch two-out two-run single in the seventh, getting the Rams within one of a comeback that ultimately fell just short. During the team's loss in game two of the series, Shaw powered out her 10
th home run of the year, a two-run shot, as her lone hit in three tries in the contest. The junior saved her best for last, however, helping Fordham to a 7-4 win with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a pair of doubles and a single, one run driven in, and one run scored.
Â
Shaw's 10 home runs and 54 RBI lead the Rams and are second and first, respectively, in the A-10, while her .386 average ranks fifth. Her 54 RBI also ranks sixth in Division I at an average of 1.23 per game. She is also top-five in hits, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
Â
Fordham currently sits in fourth in the Atlantic 10 at 8-4, tied with George Mason but holding the tiebreaker having won two of three in Fairfax earlier this season. The Rams are 32-12 overall on the season.
