Second Varsity Eight Wins Gold at Kerr Cup

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Fordham women's crew continued its spring season last Saturday, competing at the 2017 Kerr Cup on the Schuylkill River where the second varsity eight won the event while the varsity eight placed third.
 
The second varsity eight started the regatta winning its heat in a time of 7:01.5, easily beating Temple, Villanova, Lehigh and Drexel B to the line.
 
The win advanced to the Rams to the Grand Final where Fordham covered the course in 7:06.2, more than three seconds ahead of Drexel A and well in front of Temple, Duquesne, Marist and Villanova.
 
Like the second varsity eight, the varsity eight advanced to the Grand Final by winning its heat in a time of 7:19.5, three seconds ahead of Duquesne, who squeaked by Washington College for second, with Philadelphia University in fourth.
 
In the Grand Final Drexel was the first to cross the line, followed by Temple and then Fordham. The Rams placed ahead of Marist, Duquesne and Lehigh.
 
The Rams had a second shell in the Second Varsity eight competition which placed fifth in its heat to advance to the Petit Finals where it finished fourth.
 
The Rams also entered boats in the Varsity four and Freshman/Novice four in the regatta.
 
The varsity four placed third in its heat, just missing advancement to the finals by 0.2 seconds. Drexel won the heat with Temple edging the Rams who were well ahead of Loyola and La Salle.
 
The Freshman/Novice four placed third in its heat, behind Lafayette, Army A and NYU but in front of Loyola and Haverford.
 
The Rams return to action on Saturday, May 6, as they compete in the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championships on the Cooper River, in Pennsauken, N.J.
