Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham men's tennis squad closed out its 2017 home schedule with a 6-1 win over Siena for Senior Day on the Hawthorn Rooney Courts.
With the win, Fordham improves to 11-6 on the season and have won four of its last five.
In the first match, the Rams opened play by taking the doubles point.
Tomas Cosmai and
Allen Thornes teamed up to take second doubles from Diego Lebron and Giovanny Mendoza, 6-0, and then
Victor Li and
Fabian Mauritzson clinched the point for the Rams with a 6-3 win over Alessandro Saglia and Matt Bellino.
The Rams then won five of the six singles matches, four in straight sets, for the victory.
Li got things started with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Cam Kirkwood before Joseph Kavaloski defeated Alex Giannakitsidis at the sixth position, 6-1, 6-3, to give Fordham a 3-0 lead.
Thornes upended Jaco Koretz, 6-1, 6-2, at fifth singles to clinch the win for Fordham and Mauritzson made it 5-0 for the Rams with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mendoza at the third spot.
Nick Borak fell at fourth singles, dropping the first set to Siena's Bellino, 6-3, before winning the second, 6-1, to force a tiebreaker which he lost, 10-6.
Cosmai also went to a tiebreaker at second singles, dropping the first set to Saglia, 6-4, before winning the second, 6-4 and the tiebreaker, 10-6.
The Rams return to action on Saturday, April 22, as they travel to Washington, D.C., to face the George Washington University Colonials at 4:00 p.m.
