Newport News, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its weekly tennis award winners on Tuesday with two Fordham Rams being honored. Junior
Estelle Wong was named women's tennis Player of the Week, while freshman
Fabian Mauritzson was selected as the men's tennis Rookie of the Week. It's the second weekly award for Wong and the first for Mauritzson this season.
Wong went 4-0 in her matches this weekend as Fordham swept its conference opponents. The junior defeated Saint Joseph's 6-1, 6-2 in second singles and teamed with
Carina Ma to defeat the Hawks 6-1 in first doubles. On Sunday, Wong clinched the match for Fordham in second singles, defeating Rhode Island 7-6 (8), 7-5 and teamed with Ma to also clinch the doubles point 7-5 in first doubles.
Mauritzson was also a perfect 4-0 in his matches this week to lead the Rams to victory in two of three matches. On Friday, Mauritzson defeated Saint Joseph's 6-3, 6-7 (2), 10-6 in third singles. In a Sunday doubleheader, the freshman defeated Coppin State 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 in first singles and Saint Francis College 7-5, 6-2 in third singles. Mauritzson also teamed with
Victor Li to defeat Saint Francis 6-1 in first doubles.
Both teams are back in action April 15, with the women traveling to St. John's and the men visiting Siena College.
