Shaw, Aughinbaugh Earn Weekly A-10 Honors for Second Time

Rams Have Garnered At Least One Award in All Four Weeks

League Release

Newport News, Va. – The Fordham softball program picked up two more weekly Atlantic 10 honors, the third consecutive week the team has garnered at least two, and the fourth straight week with at least one to begin the year, the league announced Monday afternoon. Junior Madison Shaw was named Player of the Week after a tremendous weekend at the plate down in Raleigh, N.C., while freshman pitcher Madison Aughinbaugh garnered Co-Rookie of the Week honors for the second straight week.

Shaw had a weekend for the ages in Raleigh, N.C., helping the Rams to a five-game sweep of N.C. State's Homewood Suites by Hilton Invitational. The junior masher smacked four home runs and drove in an astounding 17 teammates in just 16 plate appearances, including two grand slams. In fact, after finishing hitless in two at bats in the win over Lehigh to begin the tournament, Shaw batted 7-for-11 over the final four contests. Against Rutgers on Friday evening, Shaw hit two home runs in the same game for the second time in her career, one being a grand slam and the other a three-run bomb. Against the Scarlet Knights in the #1 vs. #4 match-up on Saturday evening, her third-inning three-run shot proved to be the eventual winning run in the 14-5 run-rule victory. On Sunday, Fordham downed N.C. State, 16-2, and Shaw was again at the fore, blasting the go-ahead run immediately in the first inning with a grand slam. The junior would later add a RBI single and a RBI double to cap the scoring in the fourth inning.

She slashed .538/.588/1.538 for the week and is now slashing .412/.492/.784 on the year with five home runs and a conference-leading 24 RBI in just 51 at bats. Shaw was named Player of the Week after week two earlier this season.

Aughinbaugh picked up two wins over the weekend, first tossing four scoreless innings of relief against Lehigh in the opener, allowing just four hits and one walk, to preserve a 4-2 score and pick up the victory in the process, and then the following day against the hosts, she again relieved Quense and allowed one run in one inning of work. The freshman started against Rutgers in the following contest and earned the win by tossing three innings of one-run ball with two hits and no walks allowed, the lone damage coming on a first-inning home run. Aughinbaugh again came out in relief in the tournament finale against the Wolfpack, tossing a 16-pitch perfect inning with two strikeouts.

The reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week sported a 2-0 record and 1.56 ERA in 9.0 innings with just eight hits and two runs allowed.
