Jersey City, N.J. - The Fordham men's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season with a 6-1 victory over Saint Peter's at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, N.J.
Fordham opened the match winning the doubles point as
Steven Duka and
Joseph Kavaloski defeated Ivan Knezevic and Jonathan Paredes 6-2,
Victor Li and
Jeremy Chung defeated Douglas Nover and Gabriel Russotto 6-2 and
Tomas Cosmai and
Allen Thornes were leading Jorge Rodriguez and Andres Sebastian Rojas 4-3 when the match was halted.
Fordham then went on to take all but one singles match.
Tomas Cosmai got things started in first singles with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) victory over Jorge Rodriguez. He was followed by
Fabian Mauritzson who beat Andres Sebastian Rojas 6-3, 7-5 in second singles and
Nick Borak who defeated Ivan Knezevic 6-4, 6-3 in third singles. In fifth singles,
Steven Duka defeated Gabriel Russotto 6-3, 6-4 and
Joseph Kavaloski bested Cuong Lam 6-3, 6-1.
Allen Thornes dropped the lone singles point of the match to Douglas Nover 7-6 (7), 6-4.
The Rams return to action February 11 as they host LaSalle University at Life Time Athletic.
