Staten Island, N.Y. - The Fordham track and team teams had an outstanding day at the 2017 Metropolitan Championship held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. as the Rams placed fourth in the men's competition and fifth in the women's.

Rutgers won the men's competition 179 points followed by Manhattan (134), So. Conn. St. (99), Fordham (97), Wagner (74.50), Fairleigh Dickinson (44.50), New Jersey Institute (42), Columbia (32), St. Peter's (28), Stony Brook (18), LIU Post (7), NYU (6), LIU Brooklyn (6), St. Francis (N.Y.)(5) and Marist (4).
Leading the way for the Rams were
Brian Cook,
Thomas Slattery and
Michael Petersen who all won individual events. Cook won the mile with a time of 4:14.19, Slattery won the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:51.02 and Petersen bested the field in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:53.25. It was the second straight year the Rams have been Metropolitan champions in the 5,000 meter run. Later, Cook and Petersen joined with
Fritz Heinrich and
Louis Santelli to win the 4x800 relay in an IC4A qualifying time of 7:45.60.
Other top finishers included
Ryan Kutch who finished second in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:35.90 and
Louis Santelli who took third in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:54.11. Fordham's distance medley relay team of
Thomas Slattery,
Patrick Dineen,
Michael Campbell and
Nik O'Brien took third with a time of 10:19.28.

The Rams had nine other individual scorers as
Fritz Heinrich (2:31.47) and
Patrick Dineen (2:32.50) finished fifth and eighth, respectively, in the 3,000 meter run,
Richard Webber (season best 22.32) and
Jared Benn (22.39) took fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 200 meter dash,
Ryan Riviere finished fifth in the pole vault, clearing 4.20 meters and sixth in the heptathlon with 3, 920 points and
Jake Duckworth took fifth in the 3,000 meter with a time of 8:39.14. Webber (7.10) also finished sixth in the 60 meter dash while Benn took fourth in the 500 meter dash with a season best time of 1:05.44 and O'Brien finished in seventh place in the mile with a season best time of 4:21.85. In addition to the top finishes in the DMR and 4x800 relay, Benn,
Eddie Dehais, Campbell and Webber finished seventh in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:30.02.
In the women's competition, St. John's won the team title with 142.50 points followed by Rutgers (127), Manhattan (108), Stony Brook (78), Fordham (73), Wagner (50), Fairleigh Dickinson (45), So. Conn. St. (41), LIU Post (22), Columbia (22), NYU (14), St. Peter's (13), Marist (11.50), St. Francis (N.Y.), New Jersey Institute (10), LIU Brooklyn (6) and Iona (4).

Leading the way for the women was the 4x800 meter relay team of
Sydney Snow,
Shanna Heaney,
Kate McCormack and
Merissa Wright, who defended their Fordham's title with an ECAC qualifying time of 9:15.21. Snow also had an impressive showing in the 1,000 meter run where she finished second with a time of 2:57.45 and Wright impressed in the 800 meter run, also finishing second in 2:15.80.
Angelina Grebe dazzled in the 5,000 meter run with a season best time of 17:37.89.
The Rams had ten other individual scorers as
Kaia Corthell (2:20.58) and
Leah Hickey (2:25.64) finished fourth and seventh, respectively in the 800 meter run,
Laurel Fisher (3:03.23) and
Blake Elwood (3:04.63) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 1,000 meter run,
Abigail Taylor (season best 10:27.35) and
Josephine Jacob-Dolan (10:35.64) also finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 3,000 meter run,
Mary Kate Kenny (25.19) finished fourth in the 200 meter dash,
Gabriella Gavalas (11.11m) took fourth in the triple jump,
Gabrielle Schreib finished fifth in the pentathlon with 3,030 points and
Nkeka Pinheiro finished in seventh place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.85.

In addition to the 4x800 relay win, the Rams also did well in the distance medley relay with Fisher, Hickey,
Aidan Moroz and Grebe finishing fourth with a time of 12:28.74 and in the 4x400 meter relay with Kenny, Siller, Pinheiro and Corthell finishing in eighth place with a time of 4:02.66.
The Fordham track and field team will next be in action on February 10-11 at the Valentine's Day Classic, hosted by Boston University.
