Harrison, N.Y. – The Fordham men's tennis team fought back to earn a tough 4-3 victory over Hofstra Sunday evening at Life Time Athletic.
Fordham opened the match dropping the doubles point as
Tomas Cosmai and
Allen Thornes fell to Coc Haener and Niko Vulinovich 6-3 in first doubles and
Nick Borak and
Joseph Kavaloski fell to Jan Leithner and Marcus Smith 7-5 in second doubles.
Jeremy Chung and
Steven Duka were tied 4-4 with David Schrott and Nick Silvestri at third doubles when the match was halted.
Fordham hit their stride in singles play, taking four of six matches, as
Tomas Cosmai defeated Marcus Smith 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in first singles,
Victor Li defeated Niko Vulinovich 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-1 in second doubles,
Nick Borak beat David Schrott 6-3, 6-7 (8), 6-3 in fifth singles and
Jeremy Chung bested Nick Silvestri 6-4, 6-3 in sixth singles.
"This was another gritty effort by the team today," head coach
Mike Sowter said. "We had a close loss against Saint Louis the night before and we were down 3-0 against Hofstra but all the guys showed a lot of resilience and we were able to fight back and pull out the win."
The Rams return to action Saturday, March 4, as they travel to West Point, N.Y. to face Army.
