Kutch, Heinrich, Women’s 4x800 Qualify For ECAC/IC4A Championship

Staten Island, N.Y. - Following a number of impressive performances at the Atlantic 10 Championship, members of the Fordham track and field teams had one more opportunity to qualify for the ECAC/IC4A Championship as they competed at the Fastrack Last Chance Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex Saturday evening.

Three Rams punched their ticket to next weekend's championship, as Ryan Kutch qualified in the 3,000 meter run in a time of 8:20.02, Fritz Heinrich qualified in the mile in 4:14.40 and the women's 4x800 meter relay team of Kaia Corthell, Kate McCormack, Laurel Fisher and Shanna Heaney qualified in a time of 9:23.51. Kutch's time also qualified him for the U.S. Junior Nationals which will take place June 23 in Sacramento, California.

While other Rams competing didn't qualify, several Fordham athletes set season-best times including Nkeka Pinheiro (5th - 57.49) in the 400 meter dash, Kate McCormack (7th - 2:18.06) in the 800 meter run, Shanna Heaney (3rd - 2:37.34) in the 1,000 meter run, Andre Guthrie Jr. (14th - 1:09.11) in the 500 meter dash and Ryan Riviere cleared 4.50 meters in the pole vault, good for a fifth place finish.

Other Rams in action included Leah Hickey (15th – 2:22.88) and Georgeanne Siller (19th – 2:24.84) in the 800 meter run, Sean Phillips (10th – 4:16.73), Patrick Dineen (16th – 4:26.70), Carlos Zervigon (17th – 4:27.91), Adam Schwenzfeier (24th – 4:31.82) and Matthew Roma (29th – 4:36.67) in the mile run and Nik O'Brien (4th – 2:31.30), Devin Rocks (5th – 2:33.05) and Ryan McGann (15th – 3:37.77) in the 1,000 meter run. Gabriella Gavalas just missed a season-best in the triple jump with a leap of 11.14m, good for fourth place.

Fordham's men's 4x800 meter relay team of O'Brien, Phillips, Rocks and Dineen finished second in 8:01.12 and the women's distance medley relay team of Laurel Fisher, Corthell, Merissa Wright and Angelina Grebe also finished second in a time of 12:22.12.

Fordham will be back in action on Friday March 3 at the ECAC/IC4A Championship at the BU Track & Tennis Center in Boston, Mass.
