Newport News, Va. – Fordham softball standouts
Lauren Quense and
Madison Shaw have been named this week's Atlantic 10 Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Monday afternoon. The honor is Quense's second straight to start the season and Shaw's first of the season and third of her career. The duo helped the Rams to a 3-2 record at this past weekend's Pirate Clash in Greenville, N.C.
Quense became the fifth Ram to ever throw a no-hitter when she blanked Bryant on Sunday afternoon over six innings, allowing just one fourth-inning walk, while striking out three as Fordham won big, 16-0, against the Bulldogs to cap the weekend. The senior was steady as ever over the three-day five-game event, throwing a total of 17.2 innings, allowing just eight hits, one earned run, three walks, and striking out 13. That adds up to a 3-0 record and 0.40 ERA.
The senior has now won all six of her starts to begin the campaign. For the year, she is 6-0 with a sparkling 1.11 ERA in seven appearances, with four complete games and two shutouts across 38.0 innings.
Shaw had a huge weekend at the plate for the Rams, slashing .600/.684/.933 while starting all five contests. The first baseman/DP, who played hero last weekend with a pinch-hit walk-off home run over CSUN, tallied nine hits in 15 at bats with six runs driven in and three runs scored. Shaw smacked three doubles and a triple and walked three times.
The Rams travel down to Orlando, Fla. this weekend for the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic I held at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports complex. Fordham will take on a Czech Republic international squad in an exhibition contest on Friday morning at 11 a.m. before facing off against #1 Florida at 3:30 p.m. The Rams will also see Oakland, Elon, and Georgia Southern over the following two days.
