Women’s Swimming & Diving Moves to Fourth at A10 Championship

Amelia Bullock Places Second in 100 Butterfly to Earn All-Conference Honors; Megan Polaha Earns Bronze in the 400 IM

Geneva, Ohio – Day three of the 2017 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championship brought out more excitement at the Spire Institute as the women's competition saw its third different leader at day's end.
 
After Massachusetts and Duquesne led after the first two day, Richmond claimed the lead on day three with a score of 413 points.  Massachusetts is close behind with 381, followed by Duquesne (342.5), Fordham (296.5), Davidson (273), George Washington (214), George Mason (185.5), Rhode Island (151.5), St. Bonaventure (137.5), Saint Louis (136), and La Salle (115.5).
 
For Fordham, the Rams had 11 individuals score on day three with two making the podium.
 
The night began with the 400 individual medley event, where Fordham had four swimmers score points.  Megan Polaha highlighted the group, taking bronze with an NCAA "B" cut and season-best time of 4:18.30.  Marie Feneron placed sixth in the event in 4:21.16, while Jacqueline Dominger won the "B" final for ninth overall in 4:24.21.  Nele Albers was the final scorer, as she took 12th in 4:27.64.
 
Fordham's best overall finish came next, as Amelia Bullock earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors in the 100 butterfly event, by taking silver in a season-best time of 54.44 seconds.  Tara Brunner also scored in the 100 butterfly, finishing 12th overall in 56.61 seconds.

The Rams had a pair of "B" finalist in the 200 freestyle event.  Paulina Watson tied for the top spot in the "B" final in a season-best time of 1:51.44, while Kalena Laurent was 11th in 1:51.85.
 
The next event was the 100 breaststroke, but the Rams did not crack the top 16 for scoring.  Gabrielle Celia was the Rams' top finisher, placing 22nd overall in 1:05.64.
 
The last individual swimming event of the night was the 100 backstroke event, where Morgan Fairclough scored tenth overall for the Rams with a season-best time of 55.71 seconds.
 
The final individual event was the women's three-meter dive.  Wendy Espina-Esquivel made the championship final, placing seventh with a score of 249.05, while Stephanie Kerkeles took 14th overall in the "B" final with a score of 211.75.
 
The final event on day three was the 400 medley relay, where the Rams' team of Fairclough, Polaha, Bullock, and Brunner finished fourth in a season-best time of 3:45.62.
 
The final day of the Championship begins at 10:00 AM on Saturday with preliminaries, followed by the finals at 6:30 PM.
