Greg Lombana and Joseph Vizza Earn Second Team All-Atlantic 10 Honors on Day Three; Three School Records Fall

Geneva, Ohio – Day three of the 2017 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championship brought out more excitement at the Spire Institute as the men's competition saw its fourth different leader at day's end.
 
Day one had St. Bonaventure and Saint Louis atop the standings, while day two saw Massachusetts in the top slot.  On day three, George Washington now leads the pack with 378 points with La Salle close behind with 346.  Massachusetts sits in third with 300 points, followed by Saint Louis (279), Fordham (276.5), St. Bonaventure (256), George Mason (247.5), and Davidson (166).
 
For Fordham, the Rams had 10 individuals score on day three with three podium visits, three school records, and two NCAA "B" cut times.
 
The night began with the 400 individual medley event, where Fordham had their first podium visit.  Freshman Greg Lombana earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors by taking silver in the "A" final in 3:56.35.  Manny Avila also scored in the 400 IM, placing 16th in 4:04.17.
 
In the 100 butterfly, the Rams added two more scorers, as Joe Mercurio took fifth in the "A" final in a season-best time of 48.72 seconds, while Tommy Christensen was 12th overall in the "B" final in 49.90 seconds.

The next event was the 200 freestyle event, which saw the Rams earn another All-Conference accolade.  Freshman Joseph Vizza earned silver in the "A" final for Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors, as he broke the school record in the 200 freestyle for the third time this season in an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:37.75.  Liam Semple also scored in the event, finishing 14th overall in 1:40.25.

The 100 breaststroke event saw another record broken, when freshman Sean Finlay placed fifth in the "A" final in a school record and NCAA "B" cut time of 55.30 seconds, bettering Ben Dwyer's 2013 mark of 55.56 seconds.  Travis Monahan also scored as he won the "B" final to take ninth overall in 55.85 seconds.
 
The final individual event was the 100 backstroke, where Miguel Mattox placed seventh overall in 49.99 seconds, while Isiah Magsino was 11th in a season-best time of 49.79 seconds.      
 
The final event on day three was the 400 medley relay, where the Rams' team of Magsino, Finlay, Mercurio, and Vizza took bronze in a school record time of 3:17.93, breaking the previous mark of 3:19.92, set in 2013.
 
The final day of the Championship begins at 10:00 AM on Saturday with preliminaries, followed by the finals at 6:30 PM.
