Women's Tennis Defeats Rutgers 4-3

Piscataway, N.J. – The Fordham women's tennis team edged Rutgers 4-3 in a great match at the East Brunswick Racquet Club on Friday.
 
Fordham opened the match dropping the doubles point as Carina Ma and Estelle Wong fell to Chloe Lee and Ksenija Tihomirova at first doubles, 6-1, and Maia Balce and Gianna Insogna lost to Katherine Muzik and Mingxiu Du at second doubles 6-2. Mayu Sato and Alexis Zobeideh battled back to defeat Jacqueline Cochrane and Farris Cunningham 7-6 (8) in third doubles.  

In singles play, Carina Ma got things started for the Rams defeating Mingxiu Du 6-1, 6-2 in first singles, Maia Balce rallied from a set down to defeat Chloe Lee 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in third singles, Mayu Sato came from behind to beat Jacqueline Cochrane 0-6, 6-4, 6-3 in fourth singles and Destiny Grunin defeated Farris Cunningham 6-2, 5-7, 6-3. Estelle Wong fell to Ksenija Tihomirova 6-4, 6-1 in second singles and Gianna Insogna lost to Katherine Muzik 6-4, 0-6, 7-5 in fifth singles.

The Rams return to action February 11 as they travel to Newark, N.J. to face NJIT.
