Springfield, Mass. – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced on Thursday afternoon the 20 watch list candidates for the inaugural Katrina McClain award, given annually to the top power forward in Division I, and Fordham's senior forward
G'mrice Davis was named to it.
The award, in honor of the two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year, is decided by a selection committee made up of top women's college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers. The watch list will be fluid during the season and players will have the ability to play themselves on or off the list.
The list will be narrowed down to 10 by mid-February and, in March, down to five finalists. Fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite finalist at
www.hoophallawards.com. The winner of the 2018 Katrina McClain award will be announced during ESPN2's telecast of the national semifinal games in the 2018 NCAA Women's Final Four in Columbus, Ohio, on Friday, March 30.
Davis is Division I's returning leader in rebounding and double-doubles after the graduation of Washington's Chantel Osahor. Davis finished her 2016-17 campaign with 436 total rebounds, 12.8 boards per game, 10.0 defensive rebounds per game, and 24 double-doubles, while also leading the Rams with 14.6 points per contest. Her rebounding total ranked fourth-most in a single season at Fordham and she became just the second Ram to ever average a double-double over the course of a season.
The Rams tipoff against UMBC at home tomorrow, Friday, November 10, at 5 p.m. to begin their campaign.
