Bronx, N.Y. – (November 9, 2017) – Behind a career-best 18 saves from senior
Alex Jahns and a four-goal performance from sophomore
Jake Miller-Tolt, the Fordham Rams upset the 16
th-ranked St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers, 7-4, in water polo action on Senior Night at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center on Thursday.
With the win, Fordham improved to 17-10 overall, while the Terriers fell to 13-12. It was Fordham's first win over the Terriers since 1988.
The Rams got off to a good start, leading 4-3 after the first quarter, courtesy of three goals by
Jake Miller-Tolt and a last second extra-man goal by
Massimiliano Mirarchi.
The two defenses took over the second and third quarters, as only one goal was scored over the course of those periods. That goal belonged to Fordham's
Ian Watson on a nice backhand shot with 4:49 left in the second quarter, giving Fordham a 5-3 edge.
The Terriers got the initial goal in the fourth quarter to pull within one, but Miller-Tolt and
Cole Donnelly both scored a minute a part to give the Rams a 7-4 lead.

The three-goal lead was enough for the Fordham defense, led by
Alex Jahns, who made a career-high 18 saves in his final home game, which included a penalty block in the first quarter. The 18 saves brought his season total to 207, making him the first Rams' goalkeeper with three consecutive 200-save seasons.
Offensively, Miller-Tolt finished with four goals and an assist, while Mirarchi had a goal, two assists, and two steals. Donnelly and Watson had one goal each.
The Fordham water polo team will now turn its attention to the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championship, which will be November 17-19, in Annapolis, Maryland. Fordham is the #3 seed and will take on #6 seed Johns Hopkins at 7:30 PM.
