Swimming & Diving Remains Fourth at the Bucknell Invitational

Amelia Bullock & Caitlin McNary Win Individual Events on Day Two

Lewisburg, Pa. – (November 18, 2017) – The Fordham swimming & diving team continued its stay at the 2017 Bucknell Invitational on Saturday with some excellent results, as both the men's team and women's team remained in fourth place in the team competition.
 
On the women's side, Towson still leads the team competition with 1,089 points, followed by Bucknell (920.5), Georgetown (846.5), Fordham (819), Old Dominion (397), La Salle (372), Binghamton (295), and Howard (15).
 
The Fordham performances for the women were highlighted by two event wins for the Rams.  In the 100 butterfly, Amelia Bullock captured first overall with a time of 54.14 seconds, while five other Rams scored in the event.  Michelle Martin placed eighth (57.32), with Hannah McGee in 13th (56.96), Cat Alabanza in 18th (58.01), Jacqueline Dominger in 21st (58.27), and Noelle Theodoulou in 22nd (58.35).
 
Then in the 200 freestyle, Caitlin McNary captured the top spot with a time of 1:50.03 with six other Fordham swimmers scoring in the event.  Theresa Mullen was tenth overall in 1:53.39, followed by Tara Brunner in 12th (1:53.84), Chloe Mitchell in 14th (1:54.91), Samantha McDonald in 15th (1:55.05), Paulina Watson in 19th (1:54.40), and Erin McBride in 21st (1:54.50)
 
Fordham had all five swimmers score in the 400 individual medley, with all placing in the top 16.  Katie von der Lippe was the top finisher in seventh in 4:30.05, followed right behind her by Nele Albers in eighth in 4:30.30.  Dominger scored for a second time as she won the "B" final for ninth in 4:30.05, while Bayley Frierson was 14th (4:32.91) and Amie Ko was 16th (4:36.70).
 
In the 100 breaststroke, Bullock scored for the second time, as she won the "B" final for ninth overall in 1:04.57 with Albers scoring 14th (1:06.47) and Deirdre McGrath in 21st (1:06.76), while in the 100 backstroke, Martin placed seventh overall in 56.87 seconds, followed by Alabanza in 13th (58.02), Watson in 19th (59.25), and McDonald in 20th (59.48).
 
The final individual women's event was the one-meter dive, where Stephanie Kerkeles made the finals, placing eighth with a score of 229.95, while Molly Dunn finished 11th with a score of 209.80.
 
In relay action, the Fordham women had a pair of top four finishes, as the 200 medley relay team of Martin, Gabrielle Celia, Bullock, and Brunner placed fourth in 1:44.55, while the 800 freestyle relay of Watson, Mullen, McBride, and McNary took second overall in 7:35.42.
 
On the men's side, Georgetown took over first place on Saturday with 792 points, quickly followed by Towson (778.5), La Salle (694), Fordham (638), Old Dominion (580), Binghamton (452.5), and Bucknell (431).
 
The Fordham men got the scoring started with the 200 medley relay team of Auston Ramsay, Travis Monahan, Joe Mercurio, and Joseph Vizza placing third in 1:30.93.

In the 400 individual medley, four Rams found the scoring column, led by Nathaniel Guenther, who was 13th overall in 4:09.11, and Greg Lombana, who finished in 14th in 4:11.69.  Also scoring for the Rams in the 400 IM was Manny Avila Garcia in 17th (4:12.21) and Connor Griffin in 22nd (4:18.48).
 
Next was the 100 butterfly, where Mercurio and Kevin Berry made the "A" final with Mercurio taking third in 49.53 seconds and Berry in sixth in 51.37.  Three others scored in the 100 fly led by Tommy Christensen in 10th (51.29), while Matt Luther was 14th (51.83) and Ethan D'Arcangelo was 23rd (52.66).
 
The 200 freestyle saw Vizza as Fordham's top finisher in fourth overall in 1:41.47, followed by Christopher Sleutjes in 13th (1:43.52) and Danny McGowan in 14th (1:43.67).
 
Next was the 100 breaststroke which had three Rams in the scoring column.  Monahan was the top time in fifth overall in 56.81 seconds with Sean Finlay in 16th (59.47) and Jack Madigan in 19th (59.58).
 
The individual events for the men wrapped up with the 100 backstroke, where Ramsay took third overall in 49.78 seconds with Isiah Magsino in seventh in 51.27 seconds.  Scott Stern scored 16th in the evnet (52.55) with D'Arcangelo scoring for the second time in 19th (52.96).
 
The last event of the night was the men's 800 freestyle relay, where Fordham's group of Monahan, Ramsay, Sleutjes, and Vizza placed seventh in 6:59.74.

The Bucknell Invitational concludes on Sunday.
