Lewisburg, Pa. – (November 17, 2017) – The Fordham swimming & diving teams started their annual trip to the Bucknell Invitational on Friday, as the Rams sit in fourth place in both the men's and women's competition.
On the women's side, Fordham scored 342 points on day one, just 28.5 points behind Georgetown for second and 13.5 behind Bucknell for third. Towson leads with 496 points while behind Fordham is Old Dominion (195), La Salle (147), and Binghamton (109).
Highlighting the Ram performances on Friday was freshman
Michelle Martin, who won the 50 freestyle event in 23.27 seconds. Fordham had four others score in the 50 freestyle, as
Samantha McDonald won the "B" final for ninth place in 23.76 seconds, while
Tara Brunner was 11
th (23.82),
Caitlin McNary was 12
th (23.85), and
Theresa Mullen was 18
th (24.25).
Fordham also won the 200 freestyle relay in the first event final on Friday, as Martin, McDonald, Brunner, and McNary clocked in at 1:33.67, which was just .66 seconds off a school record time.
The Rams also competed in the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, three-meter dive, and the 400 medley relay on the night.
In the 500 freestyle, five Rams scored points, led by
Kate Magill in sixth place in 4:59.21 and
Paulina Watson in seventh in 4:59.31.
Bayley Frierson placed 11
th overall (5:02.41), followed by
Erin McBride in 16
th (5:05.14) and
Chloe Mitchell in 23
rd (5:08.52).
Next was the 200 individual medley where
Amelia Bullock finished third overall in a time of 2:04.36.
Nele Albers was the next Ram to score, placing 14
th (2:07.19), while
Amie Ko was 22
nd (2:09.04).
In the three-meter dive,
Molly Dunn made the finals, as she scored eighth overall with a total of 228.90 points, while
Stephanie Kerkeles was right behind her in tenth (212.75).

The final women's event on Friday was the 400 medley relay team of Martin, Bullock,
Hannah McGee, and McNary, which finished fifth overall in 3:49.55.
In the men's competition, Fordham had 274 points on day one, behind Towson (355), Georgetown (336), and La Salle (335.5), and ahead of Binghamton (241), Old Dominion (240), and Bucknell (206.5).
Topping the list of men's highlights was the Rams' performance in the 50 freestyle event, as individuals won the "A", "B", and "C" finals, led by
Joe Mercurio, who took first overall in 20.89 seconds, with
Auston Ramsay finishing sixth in 21.11 seconds.
Joseph Vizza won the "B" final for ninth overall in 21.00 seconds, followed by
Travis Monahan in tenth (21.05) and
Kevin Berry in 15
th (21.36).
Bryce Bollesen completed the trifecta of heat wins, taking the "C" final for 17
th overall in 21.38 seconds.
Fordham also had multiple scorers in the 500 freestyle and 200 individual medley.
Christopher Sleutjes placed seventh in the 500 freestyle in 4:42.17, followed by
Joseph Vizza in 12
th (4:37.57), while
Isiah Magsino took fifth in the 200 IM in 1:52.54 with
Nathaniel Guenther finishing 16
th (1:57.22).
The final individual scorer on Friday was
Christopher Craig in the one-meter diving event, as he scored 13
th overall with 190.10 points.
In relay action, the 400 medley relay team of Ramsay, Monahan, Mercurio and Vizza placed fourth overall in 3:21.54, while the 200 freestyle relay of
Jack Madigan, Berry, Bollesen, and
Matt Luther was seventh in 1:24.70.
Day two action at the Bucknell Invitational begins at 10:00 AM on Saturday.
