Claremont, Calif. – The Fordham water polo team split a pair of contest on the opening day of the Gary Troyer Tournament in Claremont, California. The 19
th-ranked Rams started day by falling to #15 Cal Baptist, while defeating Occidental in match two, 13-4.
With the split, Fordham moves to 10-5 on the season.
The Rams started Friday with its second ranked versus ranked match-up of the season, taking on #15 Cal Baptist. Fordham hung with the Lancers for most of the match, but five goals by Jonny Lotero proved to be too much, as the #15 Lancers defeated the #19 Rams, 12-9, at the Axelrod Aquatics Center in Claremont, California.
With the score even at four at the first quarter, the Lancers outscored the Rams, 3-1, to grab an 8-5 edge. The two teams followed with a three-goal third period, leaving Cal Baptist up by a 10-8 count.
Jake Miller-Tolt scored for Fordham to open the fourth quarter to pull the Rams within one, 10-9. However, that was as close as Fordham would get, as the Lancers score two more goals to put away the 12-9 victory.
For Fordham,
Massimiliano Mirarchi had four goals and one assist, while Miller-Tolt notched three goals, an assist, and five steals.
Ian Watson had the two remaining goals the Rams to go with two steals with
Diego Delgado having four assists and three steals. In net,
Alex Jahns had eight stops with two steals.

In match two, Fordham rebounded to defeat Occidental, 13-4.
The Rams came out of the gate firing in the first quarter with a 5-1 lead, and extended their advantage to 9-1 with four goals in the second, and would cruise onto the 13-4 win.
For Fordham, Miller-Tolt led all scorers with six goals to go with four steals, while Delgado had goal and three assists.

The Fordham water polo team will conclude play in the Gary Troyer Tournament on Saturday, October 7
th, when the Rams take on La Verne at 2:45 PM and Fresno Pacific at 6:30 PM.
