#20 Water Polo Edged at Iona, 11-10

Mirachi Lead Fordham With Three Goals and Six Steals

New Rochelle, N.Y. – Iona's Patrick Hudak scored with 32 seconds left in the game to break a 10-all tie , as the Gaels topped the 20th-ranked Fordham Rams, 11-10, at the Hynes Center Pool in New Rochelle, N.Y.
 
With the loss, Fordham falls to 14-7 on the year.
 
The game opened with Rams and Gaels exchanging goals to make it 2-2 before Fordham's Phillip Wang and Cole Donnelly scored on back-to-back possessions to make it, 4-2, in favor of the Rams.  Iona scored once more in the period to put the score at 4-3 after the first quarter.
 
Iona knotted the game at four to start the second, but Massimiliano Mirarchi and Jake Miller-Tolt followed with a goal each to Fordham back on top by two, 6-4.  The Gaels netted an extra-man goal to end the period at 6-5 in favor of Fordham.
 
The Rams came out of the gate strong to start the second half, as Ian Watson netted a goal, while Mirachi scored twice, extending the lead to 9-5 with 4:16 left in the third quarter.  Iona battled back by the end of the quarter, scoring three goals of their own to make it 9-8, heading to the final period.

Fordham opened the fourth quarter with a goal by Miller-Tolt to go back ahead by two at 10-8.  Iona came back to knot the game at 10 with 1:39 remaining in the game.  Fordham had two chances to go back on top, but couldn't come up with that final goal, however Iona would as Patrick Hudak scored with 32 seconds left for the game-winning goal.
 
For Fordham, Mirarchi led the way with three goals, six steals and an assist, while Miller-Tolt had two goals, two assists and three steals.  Wang ended the game with a goal, two assists, and a steal, with Diego Delgado adding an assist and three goals.  Donnelly, Watson, Ethan Vandeventer, and Magnus Sims rounded out the Rams' scoring with one goal each.  In net, Alex Jahns finished with nine saves, a steal, and an assist.
 
The Fordham water polo team will next be in action on Wednesday, November 1st, when the Rams travel to Wagner for a conference game, starting at 7:30 PM.
