Newport News, Va. – For the third time this season, Fordham volleyball freshman outside hitter
McKenna Lahr has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, sharing the honors this week with Saint Louis' Maya Taylor. This is the third time in program history that a freshman has earned the award at least three times, following Christi Griffiths in 2007 and
Olivia Fairchild last year.
For the second time this year, the school single-match record for aces was equaled, this time by Lahr against Davidson on Sunday. Lahr matched both the overall and five-set records with eight. Fairchild did it earlier in four sets against George Washington.
Lahr was instrumental in the victory over the Wildcats, serving during a lengthy run in the fourth set and again to begin the fifth set when the Rams jumped out to a 10-0 lead. The Lindenhurst, Ill. native also finished with 11 digs, six kills, three blocks, and two assists. Against VCU on Friday night, Lahr totaled 10 kills, seven digs, two assists, and a block.
Lahr is third on the team this season with 155 kills, averaging 2.42 per set, and is second with 34 aces, god for a 0.53 clip. That latter mark would rank joint-fourth in a single season if the year were to end tomorrow. It would also be the joint-highest rate by a freshman in program history, tied with Lisa Bevill in 1996.
The Rams host Rhode Island this Friday night at 7 p.m. in the team's home finale and Senior Day.
